It publicized two separate articles from the Journal of the American Medical Association JAMA ; .68 The authors -both physicians- had financial ties to Ortho Pharmaceuticals, which remained undisclosed. Physician spokespersons in universities and on the Board of the American Academy of Dermatology received royalties, grants, or payment for promoting the off-label uses for Retin A. 69 While the FDA has struggled to stop the off-label promotion of Retin A, senior industry officials at Johnson & Johnson maintained that "the prohibition against the promotion of drug for off-label uses is unconstitutional and unethical." 70.
